Rev. Patti OshitaRev. Patti Oshita of the Sacramento Betsuin will lecture and lead a discussion on “Women in Buddhism”. In particular, Rev. Oshita will explain the role of Eshin-ni and Kakushin-ni (the wife and daughter of Shinran Shonin) as well as Lady Takako Kujo and how important they were to the history and development of the Jodo Shinshu Hongwanji.  Their legacy is very much felt here at the Midwest Buddhist Temple although they lived in Japan in the past.

Without Eshin-ni and Kakushin-ni, there probably would not be a Hongwanji organization which allows us to keep the Teachings of Shinran Shonin alive.  Without Ms. Kujo, the role of modern Buddhist women would probably be different.  Ms. Kujo started the Buddhist Women’s Federation which is the major service group of any Temple.  The Women’s Federation organizes seminars, conferences and even world conventions to hear the Dharma.

After the lecture there will be a discussion and question/answer session. Rev. Bob Oshita, Rev. Patti’s husband and Rinban of the Sacrament Betsuin, and Rev. Miyamura will participate in the discussion and question/answer session.

This event will take place at the Temple on August 30 starting at 12:30 pm. Prior to the lecture Rev. Oshita will be the guest speaker at our Sunday Family Service which will be a memorial for Eshinni and Kakushinni. Family Service begins at 10:30 am.

All welcome to attend and participate.
