On December 31 a group of members and friends gathered at the Temple for our traditional New Year’s Eve (Joya-e) Service. Rev. Miyamura held a brief service and then led the group outside to take turns ringing the Kansho (the large bell just outside the temple door) 108 times. Ringing the Kansho on New Year’s Eve is a symbolic act to rid us of the 108 human passions. After that the group gathered in the social hall to enjoy the traditional toshi-koshi soba noodles. Its always a great way to cross from the old to the new year!
