Minister’s Assistants Seminar

On September 22-25 the Center for Buddhist Education (CBE) held the 2016 Minister’s Assistant Program (MAP) training session. For the second year the MAP Seminar was held in the Eastern District, this time hosted by the Midwest Buddhist Temple. Rev. Marvin Harada, Co-Director of the CBE, led the program with Rev. Henry Adams of the San Mateo Buddhist Temple and Rev. Sala Sekiya of the Seattle Betsuin as guest lecturers. Rev. Earl Ikeda of the New York Buddhist Church and Rev. Nariyaki Hayashi of the Ekoji-Washington Buddhist Temple also assisted. Attendees included 26 Certified or Advanced “in-training” Minister’s Assistants from the Eastern District (New York, Ekoji, Cleveland, MBT and Twin Cities) as well as 2 Minister’s Assistants from Canada and 3 from California.

The seminar consisted of lectures and sessions on Shin Buddhist Rituals as well as a field trip to the North American Baha’i Temple. Also, two “Dharmathons” were held so that each MAP Attendee could deliver a brief Dharma Talk.

Sutra Chanting – SANBUTSUGE

Many attendees were able to stay through MBT’s Sunday Family Service which made the chanting of the Sutra Sanbustuge quite special. To hear Sanbutsuge use the audio player below. (Recorded September 25, 2016)
