MB-LotusThe Spring Mind-Body Seminar, which will be held on March 17, will feature yoga, meditation and poetry.

We will explore writing as a means of expression, a means of gratitude and a way of practice. Eli Brown, a poet whose first publication will be out later this year, will be the guest teacher. Eli moved to Chicago from Santa Ana, Calif., and now attends both the Zen Shin and Family services. He grew up in Santa Barbara, where he attended a Buddhist temple and practiced aikido.

Eli’s first publication uses the Eightfold Path as a general structure of the collection. His presentation will have two parts: Power Writes and Poem Construction. Eli says the presentation will look at “the beauty of everyday truths.

“We will examine things that happen in our everyday lives—happy or sad, positive or negative,” he says, “and work together to express gratitude toward them and acknowledge what they do for us—and how to release ourselves from them…[things] that we learn from watching children, watering plants, making food with family, hearing hard news, problem-solving, balancing a checkbook, etc. All of these things help us to grow.”

The seminar will begin at 8:45 am with yoga at 9:15 am, led by Susan Gilkey. After Eli’s two poetry sessions, a Zen Shin meditation will begin at 1 pm and close the seminar at 2 pm. Snacks, fruits and beverages will be provided.

The suggested donation for this seminar is $10 for MBT members, $20 for non-members. To register, contact us at office@mbtchicago.org or call 312.943.7801.
